Mountain Bike Action’s August issue will feature a list of 2005 mountain biking events. However, there are some events that will be happening before the August issue hits newsstands or your mailbox. We don’t want you to miss these events so we have listed the June events that didn’t make it into the magazine cutoff. This list will be followed by the MBA story.

The vibe: This isn’t an event. It’s an ongoing happening. Rides are offered by the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBR), which offer rides for all levels of riders all summer. They offer a variety of trail maintenance hours to all Chicago-area trail users, and also host courses in trail building. This group is known for having a great time with events like the Solstice Ride and Pizza Night.

COLORADO

Mountain Bike Capital France Weekend

The vibe: This weekend is a showcase of what Winter Park has for mountain bikers. There will be guided mountain biking tours for all levels, technique and repair clinics free of charge, contests, live entertainment, children’s activities, a trial course demonstration and a chance to win a new bike. Participants who register get a T-shirt and a goody bag, as well as access to special weekend activities.

COLORADO

What: The 15th Annual American Red Cross Fat Tire Contest

The vibe: The 15th American Red Cross Fat Tire Classic benefits Mile High Chapter of American Red Cross. Both riders and hikers are welcome to participate in the event. Winter Park is home to some of America’s most beautiful trails, which MBA believes is a great place for both. You can either ride solo or with your friends.

What: Fat Tire Bike Week

Crested Butte will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Fat Tire Bike Week, the longest-running bike festival. Bike movies, great rides and night rides are just a few of the many activities that you can expect. Fat Tire Bike Week is open to all levels of riders, even beginners. There are guided tours, instructional clinics and bike rides, as well as a chainless downhill and a bike rodeo.

What: Trail of Tears 100

The vibe: 100 miles, seven cities, three counties, two lakes and one river. The f0.0mh event is one of the most dangerous. Event organizers warn that you may become lost, dehydrated or drowned. ?

PENNSYLVANIA

What: 20th Mountain Bike Weekend

The vibe: This will be Jim Thorpe’s 20th and final Mountain Bike Weekend. Carbon County has decided to terminate its agreement with the event promoter. This is a unique opportunity to have a truly memorable experience. You will enjoy four days of riding and clinics as well as shows and great people. Let’s hope that this is not the end of a great classic.
