IMBA CALL CALIFORNIA MOUNTAIN BIKERS TO ACTIVE DUTY
Your help is needed by the International Mountain Bicycling Association and the U.S. Forest Service in planning the future for Southern California Forests. The Forest Service will host a series of meetings for public feedback on six initial options to manage Southern California forests. These meetings are open to all mountain bikers from California.
These management plans will outline where bicyclists are allowed to ride for the next 15-years in four USFS forests: Los Padres (Chicago), Los Padres (Los Padres), San Bernadino (Alaska), Cleveland (Cleveland), Los Padres (Los Padres) and San Bernadino (San Bernadino). Local mountain bikers should attend these meetings to ensure that the Forest Service is aware of cyclists’ needs in each area. Mountain biking opponents will push to restrict access on public lands.
For preliminary options, 24 open houses are held in February and March. You can find a schedule of meetings in your local area on the internet at
The Forest Service will use the comments from these meetings to refine and create draft Forest Plans. The draft Forest Plans, along with the accompanying Environmental Impact Statements, will be available for review and comment in Fall 2003. The final plan will impact on proposed Wilderness within the forests, as well as recreation and riding in general.

Alternative 1 is the most likely to maintain the status quo, and it continues current uses and management. Alternatives 3 and 6, which are the least restrictive for recreational use, seem most restrictive.
